在台灣, 大家非常熟悉詐騙的一些手法, 新聞經常在報。在美國呢, 我個人本身碰到的詐騙經歷大概都是來自於craigslist。這個craigslist為什麼這麼多詐騙呢? 原因可能來自於大部分的美國當地人還是會看這邊的分頁廣告。我下面就舉例我碰過的詐騙案例之一:

Hi XXX,
I appreciate your intent of renting my apartment.
I am a committee member at The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and we are on a campaign program that I am just about leaving for. We will be in major areas of Washington, around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I will be away for approximately 5 months due to my current assignment.
Before we go any further I would like to know a little about you, and also I will like to know how many persons you intend to live in the apartment, and for how long, and also a promise that you will take very good care of the place and the facilities.
The apartment is exactly like in the pictures, fully furnished and renovated, from the living room w/pull-over sofa, television set, cable, table, center carpet. The kitchen has a micro wave, electric kettle, oven, gas cooker frying pans and cooking pots, dishes and various types of cutleries. There is a big wardrobe in the bedroom which has drawers, duvet, and bed sheets etc.
The rent covers utilities (electric, water, gas, cable, telephone, Internet and garbage disposal and 1 car parking space). There are no restrictions on having pets in the unit, but I would prefer you not to have more than 2 pets. While the apartment is perfectly furnished and designed, I could move all my furniture into storage if you want to bring yours.
You have the option to make full payments or you may pay on monthly basis to me, by bank transfers or cash deposits, since I have a long contract in the building. There are no major management processes required to secure the apartment, the sublease application, and the contract/agreement will do.
I anticipate your reply and any questions you have about my apartment.

I really appreciate the rapid response. I apologize I did not get back to you earlier. I have just arrived DC and just right about getting myself settled in my hotel room before reading my email.
I am so sorry I have left without a viewing, but I took some photos of the apartment so you will know exactly how the apartment looks like. Get back to me if you will be okay with viewing the photos as an option, so I can send a few and proceed with necessary forms and paperwork.
My apartment is very much available for the period you want to rent. The sublease is $1050 per month and security deposit is also $1050 which will be refunded if there's no damage done when you are leaving the apartment, so your move in deposit is $2100. There are lots of supermarkets, stalls, shopping malls, etc around the area, and it is less that 5 minutes walk to the Metro as well as a bus park.
A little more about me, I worked as an engineer for 20 years, and have just retired from PARADIGM Structural Engineer Inc. last year, and since then have been more concerned and dedicated to joining most joining most non-profitable organizations around.
I have lived in San Francisco, New York and Washington, and this is my first visit to DC, and I think it is going to be adventurous visiting 3 cities within the space of 5 months (thanks to IRENA: INTERNATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY AGENCY).
As i mentioned in my previous email, you may come with just your briefcase because my apartment is fully furnished, and you will be having a space for parking just 1 car without charges because it is included in the rent.

他很沒有常識, 我有沒有簽contract哪來的什麼fine, 我只有填寫application。傻子, 所以最後我還故意問他, 你有沒有電話我可以打電話給你..後來就無聲無息。

所以這邊給大家的忠告是: 千萬部要亂匯錢給沒看過的人, 最好面交, 如果沒辦法面交, 至少要跟他要一個在當地你可以找到的人的電話, 或是直接打電話給他, 如果他根本就不在美國, 那就很明顯這是一場騙局。
